This weekend, we trucked the circus to the zoo and brought them all home sleeping:

 On Saturday, Kristen picked up a bunch of new baby gear at the Missouri Mothers of Twins sale.  Davis and Evan gave some of it a test run.

This  weekend was one of the rare times where Davis has helped with Alex and Evan.  Usually he is playing somewhere else, or upset that we are interacting with the babies instead of him.  

A near miss and a lesson learned

Today on the way home from swimming lessons and working out at the gym we had a scare and a lesson learned.  As we were walking back to the car, Davis stopped and said he had to get a rock.  Later, he said "take the rock out of his mouth" and we had to pull the car over and take a rock out of Alex's mouth.   We are considering re-arranging the seating arrangements and will be careful about checking what Davis has in the car.  We think Davis understood that what he did was very bad, but he was said to see his rock go: "you threw my rock awaaaay".

Doctors Visits and misc updates

Last Friday, we took all the boys to the doctor for their scheduled checkups; Davis for his 3 year visit and Alex and Evan for their 4 month visits.  In retrospect, taking all 3 of them was probably a mistake - it made for a really long visit.  Davis did great, but by the end everybody was very hungry and ready to go. Everybody is doing great and growing well.  Alex and Evan are both about 15 pounds and in the 50th percentile for height, weight and head circumference.  They started at about 10th and 5th respectively, so they are growing like little Naegle babies.  Davis is big.  He is 38 pounds and 97th percentile for weight and 75th percentile for height.

In other news:

• Alex rolled over last Thursday
• Alex and Evan are talkers and droolers.  Their little noises are great and very distintive.  Its easy to tell who is talking when you are in another room.
• They slept through the night (8 to 6:30 last night) - Bliss!  Now if Davis would also.
• Davis can open the gate we have to the upstairs.  I didn't know this, but when I asked him he said "You hit the button" and showed me how he opens the gate.  This means, he can come up to my office while I was working which made for a very interesting day yesterday.  We eventually got settled down, but when Lynn (the nanny) is feeding the babies, Davis struggles and acts out.
• The sandbox is coming along well.  Hopefully if the weather is nice, we'll have it finished this weekend, or at least ready to fill with sand.
• I'm back to exercising and working out regularly.  When Kristen's parents were here, I was able to get my routine established again.  Hopefully I can keep it up.  This year, I would like to: bench press my weight and get back to doing 10 mile runs.  I've been running with Davis the last two weekends on Grant's Trail and am already back to 5 miles for my long runs.
• Potty training for Davis is not really progressing very much.  The doctor said she has a family with a 4 year old boy and twins.  The 4 year old can change his own diaper but isn't potty trained.  That wasn't encouraging.

Rolling, smiling, sleeping babies (and more)

Life is pretty crazy around the Naegle ranch.  With Kristen back to work and Davis' birthday party and a sandbox for the kids under construction, I haven't had time to blog lately.  Here are a few quick updates.

1. Evan is rolling over.   He has gone from front to back each of the last few days.  Alex is not yet.  Given his general dislike / frustration with tummy time, this isn't a big surprise.  Alex can turn himself around in the crib.  Its not unusual to find him rotated by 90 degrees from where we put him.
2. Alex is a super smiler.  This weekend I had him in my lap while watching the Cardinals game (I'm a convert) and for about 25 minutes got the biggest smiles out of him by making faces and playing with him.  A true joy.  (Note: Evan is a great smiler too, but I had Alex)
3. Davis turned 3 last week.  We had a family party on Wednesday and a party for his friends on Saturday.  9 toddlers made for an interesting and fun few hours.
4. The sandbox is coming along.  Its (of course) turned out to be a huge project and its hard to make much progress 30 minutes at a time.  This weekend, Davis and I worked on leveling the yard where the sandbox will go.  Davis had a blast digging in the dirt.
5. Alex and Evan sleep through the night very reliably.  If Evan is sleeping in his crib, he wakes up at about 1:30.  On Saturday (I think) I asked Kristen if she wanted to get up with him at 1:30 or if I had to.  He woke up at 1:37.
6. We had some huge thunderstorms (and tornado watches) this weekend.  Davis ended up sleeping in our bed one night - I love knowing that he feels so safe with us.
7. We've been forced to ween Evan off the swing.  He has slept in the swing for many nights, but both swings have stopped working.  I need to try and get them replaced, but he is doing pretty well in the crib.
8. I took Davis for a run this weekend.  We picked up a (huge) new bob dualie stroller from REI with their 20% coupon and our dividend.  It was the first run I've had with him since we moved.  Grants Trail was a great place to take him.  We started and ended a park.  
9. We now have 3 ghosts in our house: The Big Ghost, The Little Ghost and Six.  This weekend, they worked together to tear the cover on a book.
