Davis at 10 months

This last week, Davis turned 10 months old.  He continues to grow and change every day and we enjoy all our time with him.

At 10 months, he can:

• Stand up without assistance on occasion
• Take several steps without assistance when sufficently happy and distracted
• Feed himself using a spoon (sometimes) and hands
• Throw a spoon 8 feet
• Cruise along the furniture at warp speed
• Sleep through most nights
• Recognize and respond to some language
• Use the sign for "more" at dinner
• Play peek-a-boo (hiding and finding)
• Bounce / throw a ball
• Eat a whole banana in one sitting
• Say "mama" (once)
• Tackle and head butt Domino
• Express preferences, likes and dislikes

We are still working with signs.  We are still working with "eat", "more", "touch-no", "cat" and a few other basic signs.  Hopefully we'll see him use them more over the next month and introduce some more.

Surviving

Last week John mentioned that I had lost my voice.  Eight days later, that's still true.  It's finally coming back, very very slowly, but I still can't talk or read a book to Davis.  I've worked from home all week so that I wouldn't lose whatever voice I was regaining by having to tell people I couldn't talk.  I've only left the house twice in the whole week...

To boot, Davis got a stomach bug Thursday night.  Luckily, it's a very short lived one and he was fine by the next day, just in time for me to get it.  Now after sleeping for 18 of the last 24 hours, I seem to be on the mend as well.  We're keeping our fingers crossed that John doesn't get it too.  Thank goodness he was able to take the day off and take care of Davis (who couldn't go to daycare since his last symptoms were less than 24 hours before). 

You can imagine I'm going a little stircrazy and I'm still frustrated that I can't talk.  I'm hoping that I feel better quick and we can all get out of the house for some fun time this weekend. 

Weekend update

This weekend was a little slower than our last few weekends.  We didn't get out of the house, have people over or anything else that required any energy.  I got sick last week and Kristen got my cold in time for a group presentation on Friday.  The combination of throat / chest cold and talking for an hour led to Kristen losing her voice -- she can barely whisper at this point.  Davis is his normal happy self, but Kristen and I weren't up to anything.

We spent most of the weekend playing with Davis in the living room and bedroom and encouraging to walk with lots of toys and stuff animals held just out of reach.  We managed to get him to take a few steps - but mostly he was just cruising really fast - the difference in his comfort and speed in the last week is remarkable.  He also managed to stand up without pulling up for the first time.  Most of his development and walking seems to be when we aren't encouraging him, so we probably need to back off and let him go at his own pace.

One of Davis' favorite games is taking things out of boxes an bins.  This morning, while Kristen slept in, Davis and I played in his room.  In a matter of about 15 minutes, he pulled all the toys out of two bins, emptied two boxes of diapers off the changing table and forced me to move his dirty clothes into the hallway.  He has a blast exploring and pulling toys out  -- he does this at daycare too.  He really enjoys sharing the toys he pulls out and accepting a toy will usually get a small laugh out of the little guy.

Despite being sick, we really enjoyed our time with Davis this weekend.

Domino and Davis

Everyday we are amazed and how well Domino gets along with Davis.   There isn't a day that goes by without Domino getting pulled, petted, tackled or squealed at by Davis.  Usually, Domino is curled up in a chair or on the footstool when Davis crawls / walks over to see his buddy.  If Domino moves at all, its just to get up and move a few feet away -- he has never struck out or seemed upset.  The closest Lily gets is under the high chair at dinner.

This weekend, Davis tackled Domino on the foot stool.  They were together long enough for me to run and get the camera and get a few shots.
