Camping

This weekend, we escaped the heat in Boston (103 on Friday) and headed up to New Hampshire for a weekend of camping.  We headed to the opposite side of the Whites from where we usually go.  Kristen found a nice campground in Waterville Valley.  We took our new car and headed up after work on Friday.

Davis had a fantastic time camping.  He really loves camping and has been very excited all week. Some of the highlights:

  1. Throwing rocks in the creek, for a couple of hours
  2. Davis "making waffles" with two spoons and a lot of dirt, for a couple of hours
  3. Roasting marshmallows
  4. A super cuddle bug at bedtime
  5. Davis loving watching the stars
  6. Hammock time
  7. Enjoying our new car
  8. A couple of hours at the beach
  9. Getting away with a warning for 41 in a 30. Oops.
  10. Watching boats and dancing to music in Waterville Valley town square
Here are some pictures:

It wasn't quite this hot.  It maxed out at 103 on Friday.

Exploring Polar Caves, a little bit disappointing, but Davis was cute.

We headed back a little early on Sunday to make it to a birthday part for one of Davis' daycare buddies.  More pictures from that soon hopefully.

Imagination

We have seen a lot of evidence of Davis' emerging imagination lately.  The last few days he has had long, interactive play sessions with his animals.  He has particularly enjoyed preparing food and feeding his monkey and lion.  I captured about 7 minutes of a 45 minute play session the other day.  I stopped the video a little bit too early - he accidentally spilled some food he was giving monkey and walked off into the other room.  What is missing from the video is where he brought a chair back, put it in the corner and put himself in timeout.  I tried to explain that timeout is not for accidents and that he did not do anything wrong.  I felt a little sad and amazed at the same time - we've never put him in timeout for a mess before so I wonder what went on in his head.

Here is the long video:

And a shorter one where I manage to get him to tell his joke:

  1. Knock Knock
  2. Who is there?
  3. Apple

No, I do it

I cannot count how many times I have heard "I do it" or "No, I do it" this week.  Davis wants to do pretty much everything himself.  Here are some of the things that I have done for him and been told otherwise.

  1. Taking him out of the tub.  He got back in so he could get out on his own.
  2. Closing the door to daycare.  We had to open it so he could do it
  3. Opening the door to daycare.  We had to close it.
  4. Brushing teeth.
  5. Getting into the changing table.
  6. Cutting his pizza.
  7. Walking up or down stairs when I an carrying him.

There have been many more, but those are the ones that I can remember right now.

He is an amazing amount of fun.

Pictures of the twins

Monday we had our second ultrasound appointment for the twins.  The look great at this point and there is a 97% chance that they are fraternal; they have their own amniotic sacs, placentas and independent cord formations, which statistically has the healthiest outcome for both babies.  They are growing roughly the same (they are within 4 days of each other) and it looks like one is going to be our thumb sucker.  It also looks like we are going to have two more boys bouncing around the house.

Here are three pictures.  The first is of Twin-A who would likely be born first and the second two are of Twin-B.  We'll have to work on the names.

Pictures of Davis Sleeping

We've been marginally better at getting Davis to sleep.  2 out of the last 6 weekend days have resulted in Davis taking a nap at home without having to resort to putting him to sleep in the car.  We also seem to have moved past the need to lock Davis in his room at night to keep him from continuously opening the door and interacting with us.  For three or four days, when we locked him in his room, he fell asleep on the floor behind the door.  Earlier this week, he choose to sleep on the floor (he got his mat and pillow out) and late this week he has gone to bed without opening the door (for the first time in a long time).

I caught a few pictures of the little guy sleeping.

A Climber

Davis is a climber.  Sometimes I forget, and then I find him in the changing table, or we go to the park and he tries to climb over the fence, or up something that should be way too big for him.  This Thursday was a big climbing day for Davis:

There was a truck in the parking lot

I only took pictures the third time he had climbed this without any help.

New Videos

I've been taking lots of videos of Davis lately.  Mainly because I always have my phone with me and it takes decent enough videos.  I have a lot of videos on my YouTube channel.  This week, I went through all the videos I had and made sure they were either uploaded or deleted.

Here are a few recent uploads.  This is only a few from YouTube.
