Recent Photos

We have not been taking nearly as many pictures as in the past.  I tried to correct that this week by pulling out the camera a couple of times.

No questions please.

What's he doing?

Life continues to be a little crazy at the Naegle household, but luckily (knock on wood), we've all been healthy for the last couple of weeks and enjoying our time together.  We are preparing for the holidays and happy to have our first snow of the year! Although, I had conveniently forgotten all the downsides of snow including salty jean legs, shoveling snow and having to plan a lot more time to get to the bus stop on time.  Davis and I walked home from daycare, which took a while tonight.  When we were about to pass from the very well shoveled patch of side walk onto a snowy patch, Davis stopped and refused to go any further.  It took awhile to convince him how much fun tromping in the snow could be.  He had the hang of it by the time we got home though.

When I picked Davis up I heard a story from his day.  Declan, the five year old son of the daycare provider, was playing on his bunk bed.  When Sarah told him to sit on the bed and not the railing all the older boys (which includes Davis) looked up to see what was going on and Davis asked "What's he doing?"  I think everyone was blown away to hear a full sentence for the first time from Davis.  I think John and I heard one just a few days ago when Davis picked up the lid of the coffee grinder, which was separate from the grinder, and asked "What's this thing?".  Just recently Davis has become much more adventurous in trying out new words.  He'll try repeating most things we say now, which is so cool!

I think in the absence of time and the large lag we've had in posts, it's time to return to bullet style updates:
  • Davis still loves to read, but now he has a single page in most books that he likes to just go to for a while. (I should say a LONG while on ONE page in EVERY book).
  • Davis still loves stuffed animals.  He spends the night with about 10 to 15 on his bed, but dog-dog and monkey are still his favorites so far.  Dog-dog has gone to daycare a few times as well.
  • Davis LOVES trains and trucks.  Whenever he catches a glimpse of one he says "choo-choo" and pulls his arm up and down like he's blowing the horn on a train.  I had no idea they had a train decal on the wall at Trader Joe's until I went shopping there with Davis.
  • John and Davis turned all of Davis' art into a Christmas tree garland.
  • Davis and I made sugar cookies for the first time and he's an excellent cookie cutter.  When asked tonight what kind of cookies we should make for Santa the answer was sugar cookies.
  • Davis misses Melanie!  We borrowed clothes from a friend for Melanie while they were here and we had the clothes in our bedroom still after they had left.  One day Davis walked into the bedroom, grabbed a pair of pants and a shirt that she wore and said "Baby!", then he took him to his changing table and pointed and that day he was asked by several people why he was wearing a pink shirt.  "Baby" seems to be the word he uses for Melanie. However, I also heard him say it when he pointed to himself in the mirror.
  • Davis has been enjoying swimming lessons immensely.  We have just finished one session and will do another in January at the YMCA.  His favorite thing is to jump into the water and he's become a great kicker! We often have to remind him at bath time that swimming and splashing is meant to be done in the pool.
  • John, Davis and I are planning a trip to San Diego and LA.  I'm going to a conference in February and we're trying to plan when to Davis and John will come as well.  We'll get to spend a couple of days in LA hopefully to see James, Stephanie and Melanie!

Finally well

We've had a long hiatus from blogging - mainly due to being busy and sick.  Blogging seems to be one of the first things to fall off the todo list.  We've come off of about 5 weeks of one or more of us being sick.  We've had a combination of pink-eye, stomach flu, colds and more.

However, even being sick we have been busy.

  • James, Stephanie and Melanie were with us for the week of Thanksgiving
  • My mom was here from a little before Thanksgiving through early December
  • We went to:
  • Hosted Thanksgiving for my Family
  • Took Davis on his first train ride (awesome)
  • Got our Christmas tree
  • Took all of Davis' artwork from the summer and made Christmas ornaments
  • Went to Zoo lights at the Stone Park Zoo
  • Made cookies for the first time with Davis
  • Celebrated two birthdays

You can see some pictures on our Picasa albums:

You know it was an interesting morning when...

When you get home you have to:
  • Take the diaper off of the stuffed monkey
  • Take other stuffed animals out of the drawer
  • Take books out of the drawer
  • Put all four cake pans away
  • Pick up the clothes from the drawer away
  • Pick the coffee pot and other kitchen appliances off the kitchen floor

New Photos - James, Stephanie and Melanie

My brother James, his wife Stephanie and their daughter Melanie arrived for the Thanksgiving holiday on Friday.  Davis and Melanie are so far getting along well, though Davis seemed a little confused that Melanie didn't go home last night.   Today, the kids played a lot and we went to the zoo before naps for everybody.  Tonight, we went out to dinner, which was stressful but great.  We're all excited to have Grammie arriving on Monday.

Here are a few pictures from the last two days.

Weekend Wrapup

This was a busy, but fun weekend around the Naegle household.  Saturday we went to the Y where Davis is very happy to play in the childcare area while we workout.  After a nap, we went to Robbins Farm Park for a romp in the park and a picnic  Later, we went and saw our friends AJ and Susan before packing it in for the night.  Sunday, we went to Davis' swimming lesson, then came home to clean, play and have lunch before heading to the zoo.  I dropped Kristen off at work on the way back and Davis and I went shopping, then we all had dinner together before skyping with Grandma and Grandpa.  For the rest of the night, Kristen is finishing another job application, I'm cleaning and then we'll probably relax with part of a movie.

Here are few pictures from the zoo:

Hey had a great time going between the cutouts and playing peek a boo.

The truck by the lion is WAY more interesting than the Lion. There were probably 8 kids in the truck and all the parents standing around watching.

He LOVES driving things.

Not from the zoo, but this is what his bed typically looks like for naps and bedtime.
